Spring Engagement Session in Forest Park | Carly + Calvin

Spring is in the air, oh yes it is! There is something so magical about springtime in St. Louis. The flowers in bloom, all the colors, the perfect weather (aside from some occasional rain or perhaps the random snow storm…) I had such an incredible time shooting Carly and Calvin’s photos for their spring engagement session in Forest Park with their adorable pup, Louie!

Carly and Calvin are both dancers and met in college at The University of Iowa. They started off as friends in the same rehearsal process and then started their love story. They both ended up moving to St. Louis. Carly dances in the Big Muddy Dance Company, teaches dance and yoga, and is a photographer, while Calvin owns a record label. What a seriously cool thing to be such an artistic couple. Some of their favorite things to do together include exploring new places, cooking and eating, and seeing live performances and concerts, and having picnics.

We started off Carly and Calvin’s session with a champagne toast picnic––a great way to start a couples session, in my opinion. During the picnic, we were able to capture some sweet moments with Louie too! The flowers in Forest Park were in full bloom. The colors were simply gorgeous. It had actually rained the day prior, when we were originally scheduled to have our session, and we were a bit worried that the rain would knock the flowers off of the trees. Luckily, this was not at all the case. I adored the spot we chose to have the picnic, surrounded by beautiful white blooms all around. We then ventured around the area by the World’s Fair Pavilion, which was filled with hues of light pink! These colors simply enhanced Carly’s skirt that was full of movement and we couldn’t resist capturing some intimate moments between her and Calvin. Of course, we had to also shoot some photos of the movement of her skirt with a few dance shots, since these two both have a background in dance! 

All in all, this was such a special shoot. The fact that it was a combination of some of my favorite things, dance, love, stunning spring colors, and one adorable pup, made the day simply magical.
