Downtown St. Louis Dance Session | Jordan McDaniel

Let me just start by saying what a joy Jordan is! Plain and simple, this guy is smiles and feel-good energy all the time. What fun it is to capture that energy on camera! We had an awesome time at our downtown St. Louis dance session, no doubt about that!

Jordan and I have known each other since our college days at Southeast Missouri State. We took all sorts of classes together. Modern, jazz, ballet, to start. And we danced in several concert works choreographed by faculty, students, and guest artists. In summer of 2014, Jordan and I were both asked to participate in a summer dance intensive in New York City called ArchCore40, run by phenomenal Jennifer Archibald. We were 2 of 40 dancers chosen for the program and what a week of learning, dancing, sweating, and growth it was. Now, years later, Jordan and I both dance in the same company together in St. Louis, Ashleyliane Dance Company.

Jordan also teaches dance to the youth throughout St. Louis. How lucky those kiddos are to learn from this guy. Jordan is a born performer. He has a wealth of energy and dynamics when he dances and is a showstopper on stage. He is a dancer with a wide range of genres. You absolutely must go see Jordan bust a move next time he’s performing.

We shot Jordan’s session on a Saturday morning in late January. The weather had been gloomy and frigid all week. That morning, the sun came up in full swing and brightened the entire day. It couldn’t have worked out more perfectly. Although it was still freezing cold, Jordan powered through and you couldn’t even tell if he was cold. We shot on a rooftop in downtown St. Louis with several beautiful city views.

Jordan reached out to me to do a photoshoot for two reasons. 1. to celebrate his upcoming birthday by having photos captured of this moment in his life! and 2. to share his gift of dance through still photographs. I love this idea of capturing moments of the here and now of your life. It makes you stop and take a moment to reflect on how far you’ve come. Years later, you will look back on this day and remember all you had accomplished up to that point in your life. It is a great way to showcase what you’re proud of at this time! What a fun way to treat yourself and have images to look back on further down the road.

Enjoy the fun and lively energy that Jordan brought to this dance session!
