Portraits From Dance Film, "IF"

In April 2022, I had the opportunity to choreograph and direct a dance film as part of Ashleyliane Dance Company’s “Passion Project” program. It was a busy time of year, but I took on the challenge anyway. I was performing with ADC and during the month of March, I had three different performances, three weekends in a row. Not to mention the rehearsal and tech weeks that went along with each performance. In the meantime, I got together these three stunning dancers on our own time, outside of ADC rehearsals and the dancer’s other busy schedules. We carved out three productive rehearsals and finished the dance within two. Come April 1st, we packed up the costumes, heading downtown to a parking garage in St. Louis, and shot this film in one afternoon!

"IF" is an exploration of the inner versions of ourselves. We are made up of all the "what if's..." we experience regularly. The choices we make, both big and small, good, bad, neutral... ultimately affect the paths our lives take. What would life look like had we made one different choice in a previous moment?

Scroll down to see some of my favorite still moments from the filming process and be sure to make it all the way to the bottom of the page to watch the 3 minute dance film I’ve entitled, “IF.”
