Midtown St. Louis Dance Session | Leah Robertson

Spring is just beginning to hit in St. Louis, which means warmer weather, brighter colors, and more gorgeous days ahead. Leah certainly brought the sunshine on our shoot day with breathy jumps, dreamy movement, and a stunning red dress. It was a windy morning, but Leah handled it like a champ and the wind even emphasized her movement more! Check out my favorites from Leah’s Midtown St. Louis dance session!

Leah is celebrating an exciting time in her life, currently. She is about to graduate with an MFA in dance from Washington University, here in St. Louis, where she just completed her thesis. She also got married late last year! That’s what I love to capture in dance, lifestyle, and portrait photography, the celebration of accomplishments and to document this moment in your life as it is, right now. Whether they’re big life changes or little moments, I believe that these are moments we deserve to hold on to, and will cherish having documentation of it down the road.

For her dance photography session, Leah wanted a simpler location. We ended up shooting in the Grand Center Arts District in Midtown St. Louis. I love this area because there is such a variety of spots to choose from. Grand Center has a range from colorful walls and murals, to slate-gray and neutral colors throughout. It’s a wonderful playground for photography sessions, no doubt, especially for artists to feel at home. Our first location we shot at was the exterior of the Pulitzer Arts Foundation. The slate-gray walls and exterior of the building was a perfectly simple and subtle backdrop to highlight the shapes and movements that Leah created.

Be sure to keep an eye out for Leah in the St. Louis dance community, where she teaches dance, choreographs, and performs!
